Can I just require all engagement sessions to involve dogs from here on out??! Seriously, though. The dog-lover in me just can’t get enough of the sweetness that is between a cute pupper and its human companions. As soon as I met with Jane and Paul, they instantly informed me that their dog, Baxter, was the center to everything they do. We chatted about Baxter’s funny quirks, I shared goofy story or two about my dog PJ, and then we discussed where their engagement session would take place. Paul got down on one knee to ask Jane to marry him at these very steps at Gratz Park, here in Lexington, Kentucky. They also take Baxter on walks around the park, and play frisbee in the yard in front of the steps. As soon as Baxter noticed where he was, he was sniffing around and nudging Paul and Jane Houston to play. It was so cute!
We walked around the park and surrounding areas, working Baxter into any shots he happened to..um….pose for! This dog was SO good, and so photogenic, y’all. I loved his sweet spirit and hanging out with these two in a spot that is so special to them! As a local photographer, Gratz Park is a pretty common place for ‘togs like myself. And I would never say a location is getting old, but sometimes it can feel challenging to come up with fresh ideas at the same place. But, Jane and Paul gave me the chance to use my creativity and told me such a beautiful story about this place, and that gave me the confidence I knew I had to still photograph it in a way that felt new and fresh to me. I used some tilt-shift, different angles, and played with some fun poses for their engagement session and I truly fell in love with Gratz Park all over again.
I love this sweet city of mine!
