This one might be the most special wedding I’ve shot to date. The groom, Adam, is my older brother. When the time came to find a photographer for their wedding, Katie and Adam wanted no one else but their little sister to do it. <3 And now, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way! I made sure to reach out to my BFF/work wife/fellow photographer pal Kirstie Dunston Photography to second shoot and could NOT have done it all without her! She was at anyone’s beck and call, shot my brother prepping for the day, assisted in multiple situations, supported me, and did a KILLER job while at it.
Getting ready for this day was a lot of work. I don’t often get to be a part of the grit and grime of pulling an entire wedding together. But I wanted to help in any way I could to give my brother and new sister the day that they dreamed of together. Between our families, they poured well over 100 hours transforming Katie’s childhood home backyard into a sweet, intimate, twinkly, country setting, perfect to dance the night away. Adam and Katie and our families worked so hard to have this magical day.
When the day came, it was a hot, sunny, beautiful September day. There was so much love surrounding these two that it didn’t even matter that we were all sweaty. Their ceremony was under the most beautiful, tall trees, tucked in a part of the yard where there was still a slight breeze. We cooled off with wine coolers and beer, nommed on an impressive taco bar fit for an army as the sun set over the trees. Adam and Katie danced together under twinkling patio lights together and then Katie’s dad shared some beautiful remarks about the sweet duo, raising Katie in this very place, and sharing precious anecdotes of the past.
It was all so, incredibly worth it when I had a few minutes to photograph the two of them together, Adam and Katie said it themselves - it was an absolutely perfect day.
Xo,
Sarah
